Dartmouth Royal Regatta

After the Red Arrows display of speed and precision, and noise, it was our turn to give a display ‘The Wet Arrows’ in the Dartmouth boat float. Seal launches, tows, rolls, paddle float rescue and running round the rafted boats, entertained a modest crowd at a slower tempo.

Only 2 x tim turned up for the club meeting. So we decided to see how the seals were enjoying the sunny weather.

Here¬† is a pair at the Mewstone. The rocks are very sharp, so they don’t move off their perches unless danger is imminent. They soon got used to us and posed for portraits.¬† One was a solemn seal

When its windy and rough and rainy it’s nice to get ashore. This is the cafe at Dittisham. Nice cake, vernacular architecture.

Greenway railway viaduct

This is Greenway railway viaduct, by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. He wanted to take the railway to Dartmouth, bridging the Dart a little way downstream from here but the citizens objected so the railway ended at Kingswear on the east side of the river. It would surely have been a spectacular bridge.

Rounding the Eddystone

Four top tuned members of the club A-team set off to round the Eddystone lighthouse, about 20 km out to sea from Plymouth sound. The weather was good but a headwind slowed the return to 6 hours.
